[...] And here I go again, about to head off to the largest anime convention on the East Coast: Otakon 2008! I’ll make it clear right now, and quit lying to anyone, that picture uploads from my camera are likely not going to occur. Even more so, weblog updates. I’m referring to my sole Otakon 2007 post and the Tekkoshocon 2008 bit, both of which failed in follow-ups. Otakon’s just too involving throughout the three days, so any write-ups will have to occur in the morning or the late evening - assuming I have any energy remaining. [...]

[...] From what I’ve heard and seen, Tekkoshocon is one of the best anime gatherings in the surrounding states, mainly because it’s not so large as to prevent movement and a desire to participate in everything on the schedule, but still filled with enough good things to do in order to provide that “big con” experience. Hopefully, I can spend time updating this blog with some photos (unlike previous posts for Otakon 2007 and Setsucon 2008), as PSU Media Tech has lent me another camera for those spastic picture taking opportunities.
[...] On a personal note: I still would like to get something mecha cosplay-oriented done by Otakon 2008, but truth be told, it’s a long shot due to possible internships or summer classes. I’m no longer attempting to build the ARX-7 Arbalest from the Full Metal Panic! series mainly because of the large amount of smooth features and difficulty in rescaling the mecha to human proportions; Gundams, with their somewhat-narrower shoulders and less-curvaceous designs (in general) are a better option. Besides, there are more model kits for the latter - excellent starting points for building a costume version. [...]

[...] But what does a college student have that can compare to this man’s works? Apparently, he’s over 30 years old, and with me being, er, about a decade younger, I still have a while to go: get a supporting job, at the least. If this sounds like a RELAy post longing for flight in jets, it should; college students (tend to?) study, not pursue lofty purchases/ambitions, and I’m not an exception. However, unlike learning to fly the L-39C, mecha cosplay is actually feasible during an active semester. It’s the deadlines (Otakon 2008, Setsucon 2009, etc.) and a “slight” lack in funding that prevent me from doing so; all in all, though, one might expect me to…one day…say the same words the blogger wrote above: “I AM GUNDAM!” [...]

[...] 3. Alas, during break as well, I finally took the time out with my neighbor down the street to build a Pop’n Music arcade style controller for Pop’n Music 8! I first had contact with Bemani’s nine-button Pop-kun series at Otakon 2007 in its massive gaming room, and at once I knew I had to play this Japanese rhythm again soon. [...]

[...] Unfortunately, no journal entries are available on this build, unlike the Tesla Coil Graduation Project, but that’s because the PnM ASC took less than a week to complete. Hopefully, it’ll survive the beatings at Setsucon 2008 - which I’m hoping a good number of people will go to (I’ll be seeing con-goers there as the gaming room head). More/better-quality pictures will come some day when I can get my hands on a DSLR from Penn State… [...]

[...] Here’s a new recording of a more-recent Stepmania 3.9 simfile created around an Animusic track. Actually, a redux: I’ve used the 7/4 time signature Starship Groove of Animusic 2 in an early, laggy experimental Couples chart, back when custom “stepping” was a new hobby for me. Since that version turned out to be far too easy, even for dance pads, I’ve scrapped everything, raising the difficulty significantly; the new 13-footer Challenge stepfile is enough to warrant keyboard-ing it instead–just like the file based on Drum Machine. If one wished to dance to it, this would be like a five-minute sprint with feet on fire! [...]

[...] Similar to a post in RELAy several months back, I’ve continued to make more simfiles and YouTube autoplay videos for Stepmania 3.9. This time around, I have a non-lagging version of Animusic’s “Stick Figures” and a brand-new stepfile built around Animusic’s “Drum Machine.” The latter was a lot of fun to make, but I’d say it’s very difficult even for experienced keyboard players; actually dancing to it on a pad would impress me immensely because of the number of 3/4-panel hands involved. Finally, there’s a tricky negative BPM/mine-laced singles file created around Jimmy Luxury’s thumping “Cha Cha Cha” track. [...]

[...] It’s interesting how I’ve moved around the scene of PlasmaFire.org over the years. Blogging in general, too. For one thing, I’ve never turned serious about weblog writing at all; between my very first Xanga post and my final RELAy.PlasmaFire.org writeup, one could possibly tell the inconsistencies that abound. Respectively, I still can’t get myself away from using netspeak and l33tspeak (LOL, JK kthxbai… :/), nor can I ever complete a simple writeup of an anime convention experience. The only exception would probably be the Tesla Coil Graduation Project, but that was never summarized in full detail during the aftermath: I never wrote up what happened after the device was completed and presented to my Physics II class.
